Description

The Garden Bridge is a single arch bridge constructed with unreinforced concrete and a rubble core. It features a parapet with splayed ends and piers, to which figurines were added later. The concrete is made from a very coarse aggregate of river-borne pebbles and large brick fragments, chosen for their color effect. Beneath the arch, the concrete was laid between five courses of shuttering, which still show visible putlog holes. The tunnel vault is made from a finer aggregate and bears impressions from the boards of the arch former. The parapet is mostly modern, made of fine concrete.
