Description

Fir House is a two-storey building constructed of rendered concrete, featuring a slate roof and Gothic detailing. It has integral lean-tos on the right side and at the rear. The front facade has four windows with angle pilaster strips, moulded architraves, and a plat band. The windows include concrete mullions with round-headed lights: three-light in the upper storey, two-light above the porch, and four-light in the lower storey, all incorporating iron frame casements. The porch, located to the left of centre, has a pointed arch and a slate roof. There are axial stacks at the left end and to the right of centre. The right lean-to has a 20th-century casement in its lateral wall. The rear elevation features similar windows to the front but with plainer architraves, and to the left is an original lean-to with additional lean-tos added in the late 20th century.

Inside, the building retains its original subdivision, although internal openings between the sections are now blocked off. The servants' quarters, which now serves as a holiday cottage, occupy the unit to the right with lean-tos. All internal partition walls are made of concrete, and the ground floor is reportedly laid with concrete slabs. The roof is said to consist of cast iron rafters and concrete slabs, over which slates were laid. The main house includes a central stair hall with a straight concrete stair that has a concrete handrail moulded into the wall. There are two units in the lower storey; the room to the right features a fireplace with a concrete overmantle on brackets and a timber spine beam with exposed joists. The servants' quarters is a single unit, and the right lean-to is said to contain a timber stair and concrete steps leading to a barrel-vaulted cellar made of concrete.
