Description

Henfache is a large farmhouse that features a combination of brick and stone construction, painted white, with restored slate roofs. It has brick end chimneys and stone mid chimneys.

The farmhouse was enlarged around 1700, resulting in a large, irregular south-facing front that has considerable character, including two main gables. The central gabled section, which appears to replace or conceal the original gable end of the downslope range, is made of brick and has two storeys and an attic, highlighted by decorative string courses. To the right, set back about 3 meters, is the second gable, part of the east wing, which is constructed of stone. To the left, there is a two-storey brick wing built in two phases. The right wing, which includes the second gable, also has two storeys and an attic, and features a large single-storey low-pitched lean-to at the end.

The south elevation, including the right return wall of the main gable, has a variety of windows. These include 12-pane sash windows, some with horns and some without. The windows on the right side of the right wing consist of 16 panes and are hornless. The attic windows in both gables are made up of pairs of casements. In the angle between the return part and the right wing, there is a modern glazed porch that shelters a modern semi-glazed door.

At the rear of the house, there is a very large lateral chimney serving the east wing, and the windows throughout have been replaced. While the interior was not re-inspected during the resurvey, it is reported to include features such as a timber half-newel staircase, solid oak stair treads, some internal timber framing, and exposed ceiling beams and panelling.
