Description
The Bothy Garden is a walled garden, measuring approximately 90 by 90 meters, which is divided into four equal quadrants by an east-west cross wall and a north-south terrace wall. The walls are constructed of brick with ashlar dressings, featuring saddleback copings. In the external wall, there are doorways with 4-centred arches, some of which have boarded doors. The east-west cross wall contains four similar doorways. In the northeast quadrant, the cross wall also features a sham fireplace beneath a shaped gable, which has ashlar copings and two polygonal chimneys, one of which has a tall patterned flue. The north-south cross wall includes a low parapet and four flights of stone steps, each terminating in piers with flat caps, likely intended for statues. Additionally, the northeast quadrant contains the remains of glasshouses, while the southeast quadrant has the remains of a timber-framed summer house.
