Description
Gilfach-y-rhiw is a two-storey building with an attic, constructed in the 18th century. It features large scale uncoursed rubble stonework and a random slate roof, while the south front is made of timber framing set between stone gables. The timber framing consists of four panels high with wattle and daub infill and lacks braces. The building has three bays, gable stacks, a panelled door, and 19th-century three-light timber windows with a transom and a central hinged iron casement. There is a 20th-century porch over a side door that leads to a rear service room. At the rear, there are small six-pane sash windows with cambered heads.
Inside, the main range has chamfered twin spine beams, which are interrupted in the hall bay for the staircase that features an early to mid-18th-century moulded handrail. A timber-framed partition is exposed in the central bay, and the rear service room has similar twin beams and a gable fireplace.
