Description
Ty Brith is a building that features a main range to the east and a service range to the west. The main range has a two-bay layout with an advanced gabled wing on the south side and a parallel rear wing set back to the northwest. It is constructed of random rubble with larger quoins and has a slate roof with a single brick stack featuring diagonal shafts on the rear ridge. The openings are topped with segmental stone heads and have stone sills, with windows that have a consistent design and margin glazing.
On the entrance front, the upper storey includes a blind window to the right and a cross window to the left. In the lower storey, there is a six-panel door with an overlight featuring margin glazing and a segmental head to the left, and a blind window to the right. A canopy was added to the entrance front in the late 20th century. The east front has a gablet to the right, cross windows in the upper storey, and three-light windows in the lower storey. The rear elevation features a cellar opening under a segmental head in the gable end, along with two-light windows with Gothick glazing in both the upper and lower storeys.
The service range is lower than the main range, square in plan, and has a gabled projection at the northwest angle. It is also made of random rubble and has a hipped slate roof with two square brick stacks below the ridge. All the windows in the service range have cast iron Gothick-traceried glazing. The entrance is located in the west front, accessed through the gabled projection. The lower storey of the west front includes a centrally located three-light window and a two-light window to the right, while the upper storey features three equally-placed two-light windows, all without sills. The south front has a single two-light window with a sill in each storey to the right, along with a lean-to greenhouse on a brick plinth. The north elevation contains two two-light windows in the lower storey and a single window to the left in the upper storey. The gabled projection is a single storey, made of random rubble with a slate roof, and has a lean-to breeze block garage on the west side.
The building was not accessible at the time of inspection in March-April 1996.
