Description
Bryn Derwen and Lake Cottage are a pair of symmetrically planned cottages built in the 19th century. They feature irregularly coursed rock-faced slate masonry and a slate roof, with a shared central chimney stack made of both stone and red brick. The roof is adorned with a ridge of decorative red crested tiles. The cottages have prominent timber bargeboards on the shared front gable, which is half-hipped, as well as on the side gables. Each cottage has an open porch at the front corners, with a boarded door and a small window within the porch. Above the porch, there is a four-pane sash window in the main gable, complete with a stone sill and lintel. Below, a three-light sash window also features a stone sill, lintel, and relieving arch. The side elevation includes a three-light upper window with a stone sill and lintel, along with a small attic light. In front of the cottages, there is a distinctive railing made of lattice-type iron or steel plate, which is bolted together.
