Description
Tyn-y-Cwm is a two-storey building with a basement under the left-hand portion. It is constructed from rubble stone blocks and features a hipped slate roof with deep-set eaves supported by moulded brackets. The building has two end stacks, one made of brick and the other rendered. The front of the building is asymmetrical, despite attempts to create a formal appearance. The entrance door is raised up four steps to the right of centre and is sheltered by a gabled canopy. To the left of the door, there are two windows set high above a blocked door and window leading to the cellar, while a single window is located to the right of the door. The upper windows have a cross pattern, and the one above the door, likely the original, has an ogee moulded frame with only partial remains of an iron casement. The lower right window is a cross window, and the lower left windows are 19th-century tall casements. The southwest gable end is covered with iron sheeting, and there is a later rear portion with a catslide roof. A further gabled wing is built from rubble and has a rubble stack along with various 19th-century windows. A plaque on the wall reads "VR/JO C 1897 F."
Inside, the building retains much period detail, although it is in poor condition. Features include six-panel, raised and fielded doors, panelled alcove cupboards, and fire surrounds and hob grates from the 18th and 19th centuries. The dog-leg stair has a closed string, turned balusters, a deep moulded handrail, and square newels, while the attic section is styled differently with heavy reed mouldings.
