Description

Clift Cottage is a house that appears to follow a lobby-entry plan. It is timber-framed with whitewashed brick panels and features a slate roof with a central square ridge stack made of red brick. The cottage has one storey and an attic. The northeast gable displays irregular framing with whitewashed brick infill, and there are renewed small-paned casement windows, including a pair in the attic and a matching triple casement below. A modern flat-roofed brick porch has been added at the left-hand angle of the building.

The long northwest side has a roof that descends low over an outshut that extends for about two-thirds of its length. The outshut features heavy square framing, measuring six panels in width and two in depth, resting on a brick plinth. There is a modern 9-pane casement window in the first panel under the eaves, and a low ledged door in the fifth panel. To the right, the main house wall appears to be two-storey due to the rising ground, with windows positioned at a higher level. The wall has alternating wide and narrow panels, five in total, with the rails made of thinner scantling. There are two modern pairs of casement windows in the wider panels, also under the eaves. The southwest end gable is made of whitewashed brick, while the southeast side facing the garden has not been inspected.

Inside, the northeast room features a rough ceiling beam, exposed joists, and an old fireplace arch.
