Description
Cae'n-y-coed is a derelict two-storey farmhouse built in the 19th century, featuring two units. It is constructed from uncoursed axe-dressed quasi-rubble local stone and has a graded slate roof with a tile ridge. To the right, there is a lofted extension of two bays made from similar materials, and another extension at the rear includes a porch at the angle. The central chimney stack has been lost down to roof level, while the end chimney on the left remains intact.
The entrance door is slightly offset to the right of the center, with vertically aligned windows on either side. The door and lower windows feature large timber lintels, and the windows are lightly constructed timber with iron glazing bars. The main door is boarded and has been reduced at the top.
The house and the extension are of equal height. In the extension, the first bay has small windows both above and below that are not aligned, while the outer bay has a large window above and a ventilation slit below. There is a hatch door in the gable end, and a lean-to structure made from similar materials is positioned against the gable end.
The house has a two-unit plan with a baffle entrance adjacent to the central chimney, which serves only the right unit (kitchen). The left unit (parlour) has a smaller gable chimney and has been divided longitudinally into two rooms. The lean-to extension at the rear is not visible from the inside.
The two bays at the right end of the building are used as cattle sheds or stables, with a stall division in the outer bay.
