Description
The Cowhouse Range at Sycharth is a long lofted building dating from the 19th century, featuring a symmetrical front that faces the road. It is constructed from local uncoursed or quasi-coursed shaley stone and has a hipped slate roof with large tile ridges and hips. At the south end, there is a small brick annexe with a lean-to slate roof. More modern agricultural buildings are located at the rear, which also includes roof lights on the rear slope.
The front of the building has two heck doors and four windows, as well as a heck door on the left end that provides access to the feeding walk. All these openings have brick dressings with segmental arches, while there are two loft hatches at the front and one in the left end wall that do not have brick dressings.
Inside, the ground storey retains stalling for 7½ pairs of cattle, complete with feeding racks and a feeding walk at the rear, along with additional stalls in the lean-to section.
