Description
Bryn-glas Hall, also known as Brynglas Devereux, is a building with origins in the 17th century and significant additions from the early 19th century. It features local stone and some timber framing, topped with slate roofs. The structure consists of a 17th-century rear section with stone gable walls, and an attached stone service wing at the eastern end, which has a gable stack. The timber framing is arranged in three panels, raised by an additional panel in light timber construction.
On the south side, a large, symmetrical, three-bay, two-storey building was likely added in the early 19th century. The central bay is narrower and recessed, while the end bays are gabled with a shallow pitched roof. The central door, located in the recessed bay, is framed by a columned portico that is now in a state of severe decay. The ground floor windows have semi-circular headed openings with timber gothic glazing, while the first floor features 12-paned sash windows. Notably, the upper window of the central bay has a depressed ogee head above a tripartite sash. The older rear section of the house has timber windows, as does the service wing.
The interior was not accessible during the inspection in October 1995, but it is reported to contain 17th-century panelling and a staircase. At that time, the building was noted to be in poor condition.
Bryn-glas Hall is listed as a significant house with 17th-century origins, showcasing a fine Regency range and retaining much of its original fabric.
