Description
The Old Cable House is a two-storey building constructed of brick, featuring rock-faced quoins and a snecked stone basement. It has a brick parapet above a plain plinth band with a corbel table and stone coping, topped by a hipped roof. The south front showcases two tall round-headed windows with stone sills, imposts, and keys, fitted with small-pane sashes. There is a small window in a similar style inserted in the upper storey during the late 20th century. Between the main windows, there is a cast iron bearing box behind glass, with another bearing box, infilled with brick, located slightly higher and to the right. The basement has three equally-placed sash windows. The right side wall features a round-headed window similar to those on the front, while the left side wall has an inserted doorway. The rear has late 20th-century extensions. To the west, there is a rubble stone wall with a brick parapet leading to a nine-sided tower. This tower is also made of brick and shares similar architectural details with the Old Cable House, including a parapet above a plinth band with a plain corbel table, round-headed openings on the north and south faces, and doorways in the east and west faces.
Originally, the building was a single-storey structure with a basement but was divided into two storeys in the late 20th century. A bearing box, similar to the one in the south wall, is visible in the north wall. From the basement, there is a brick-vaulted tunnel leading to the tower, which is partitioned at the property boundary between the Old Cable House and Park Cottage.
