Description

The Old Vicarage is a two-storey building featuring rubble stone walls with squared quoins and a hipped slate roof. The double-pile roof has a minimal overhang, clay ridge tiles, and two modern red brick gable chimney-stacks. The roof valley has been filled in later with a felt roof. The building has a three-window range that is slightly off-centre, with a doorway that has a pointed arch and brick voussoirs, a six-panelled door, and a Gothick tracery overlight. The tall casement windows have pointed arches and brick voussoirs, with Gothick tracery and thin glazing bars; the ground floor has 18-pane windows, while the first floor features 14-pane outer windows and a repaired middle window with 13 panes. The east elevation has rubble stone with an inserted square-headed four-pane sash window, while the west elevation is plain and lime washed. The north elevation has all modern windows and a door.

The overall plan of the building is roughly square and incorporates an earlier part of the house at the rear. There is a central passage with stairs in the later part of the house, with timber stud partitions leading to the Living Room and a slightly larger Parlour. At the end of the passage, two steps lead up to the earlier rear part of the house, which has solid partition walls. There are remains of an earlier window in the cross-wall between the front and rear parts.
