Description

Wood Bank is a Georgian-style, two-storey, double-fronted house constructed from local rubble stone, featuring tooled ashlar quoins. It has a low-pitched, hipped roof that is slated, with overhanging eaves and a central red-brick chimney stack. The front elevation is symmetrical, with 16-pane horned sash windows on the lower level, which have wood surrounds, although the upper parts have been replaced. The upper windows consist of 16-pane on the west side and 12-pane on the east side. The central doorway is framed with wood and features double, three-panelled doors.

To the west, there is a later single-storey extension that includes stone pillars, which may have originally belonged to an entrance porch. The side elevations are plain, while the rear of the house has a two-storey wing built in two phases at right angles to the main block, with chamfered corners on the later phase. A curved bread oven is located at the eastern junction between the two phases of the rear wing, and there is also a later single-storey lean-to extension to the west of the rear wing.

Inside, the house has a symmetrical plan with a small entrance lobby that backs onto the central chimney stack. The stairs are situated at the rear of the chimney stack. The living room to the west features a wood-boarded floor and a plain plaster ceiling, while the dining room to the east also has a wood-boarded floor but a timber joist ceiling. Both rooms contain wood-surrounded fireplaces that back onto each other. The original kitchen has a quarry tiled floor, a timber joist ceiling, and a wide-arched fireplace with its original grating. A bread oven opens off the rear extension.
