Description

Llanshay Farmhouse is a building primarily from the 19th century, featuring a roughcast front, with earlier elements likely dating back to the 15th and 17th centuries. The structure is one storey with an attic and has a two-storey cross range to the left. It is four windows wide, with an additional single window, mostly consisting of two-light casements. The roof is slate, with exposed eaves, a central roughcast stack, and three pitched roof dormers that have plain bargeboards.

The 17th-century cross range is two storeys high and has one window, with a gable end and roughcast exterior. This section was originally jettied but has since been underbuilt in stone. There is a roughcast stack on the left side. The centre rear of the building is one storey and attic, featuring modern dormers and later windows, with brick walls sitting on a stone plinth and brick and roughcast stacks.

Inside the main range, there are three cruck couples that likely date to the 15th century, although they have been sawn off below the first floor level. The thick uncusped blades are set well in from the rear wall due to later alterations when the roof was heightened and broadened. The building was probably once an open hall, which was floored in the 17th century, and features feather-stop chamfered beams in the main rooms. There is a fireplace with a large timber lintel, and some timber partition walls are visible, as well as the timber frame of the cross range.
