Description
The Barn at Ffinnant is a 3-bay lofted farm building. The front is covered with weatherboarding and has a corrugated iron roof. The south gable end is made of corrugated iron, while the north end is open but features a corrugated iron gable. At the rear, there is a red brick lean-to. The front openings have been modified; there are three windows, at least two of which were likely doorways, along with a cart-bay opening on the right side. Above, there are three loft hatch openings and a large corrugated iron gate on the north gable end.
Inside, the building retains three pairs of full-height pegged cruck trusses. The outer trusses have collars, while the central truss has a later tie-beam added. All trusses show signs of being smoke-blackened, indicating they were used for domestic purposes. The lower part of the northeast cruck blade has been cut away for farm use. The side walls feature open box-panelling, with the western panel now located within the lean-to. The framing extends to the north, suggesting that a fourth cruck truss at the north gable end has been lost. There are no internal partitions remaining. There is possible evidence of opposing doorways to a cross-passage on the south side of the north truss, which may indicate a dais partition at the south end. The roof was raised, likely to insert a loft when the building was converted into a cow-house; however, there is no longer a loft, and the space is now open.
