Description
Hodley United Reformed Church is a building constructed in 1840, featuring whitewashed brick and a slated roof. It is a single cell structure with a brick and slate porch added in the 20th century. The church has brick dentilled eaves and two round-headed windows on each side, which have fixed glazing and a central vent, with the glazing bars rising to meet in the semi-circular heads. The original glazing has been replaced with 16-pane sashes on the south elevation, which match the original design and maintain the intersecting heads. A semi-circular black date-stone on the front gable reads "BETHANY/1840."
Inside, the church is very simple, with a slightly raked boarded floor and plastered walls and ceiling, the latter divided into three bays and coved to the side walls. There is a grained panelled dado, a pulpit with a canted and balustered front, and a panelled reredos. The seating consists of pine pews for approximately 90 people, along with wall benching at the rear.
