Description
The United Reformed Church, originally known as the Bethel Congregational Chapel, was built in 1814 and remodeled in 1860, as indicated by a plaque on the front. It features a squared stone front with rendered returns and a rear, topped by a Welsh slate roof. The chapel has a small rectangular plan.
The gabled front includes a low plinth and a central pair of doors with a plain fanlight set in a round-arched surround. This surround has panelled jambs, impost blocks, an archivolt, and a keystone. Above the door, there is a plaque inscribed with "BETHEL," flanked by round-arched windows that have been replaced with 16-pane sashes and radial-glazed heads. A large oculus with radial glazing is situated above, accompanied by two panels inscribed "REMODELLED" and "1860." The gable also features a small louvred oculus. At the rear, there is a narrow semi-octagonal apse, which is flanked by large round-arched windows.
Inside, the church has a curved, panelled balcony supported by thin iron columns.
