Description
The gates, piers, and walls located north-west of Lumley Lodge date from the 18th century, with the gates being added in the late 19th century. The structure features dressed stone walls, ashlar piers, and iron gates.
There are four tall, rectangular-plan gate and end piers that showcase boldly-chamfered rustication. The piers are topped with blocks that have half-H panels and pediments. The quadrant linking walls have a projecting flat coping. The pair of gates consists of close-set bars and cross-braced dogbars, with the bars connected by cinquefoil arcading below the top rail, and ornamental finials adorning the gates.
Part of the gateway was rebuilt around 1980.
