Description
The terrace retaining wall south of Lambton Castle was built around 1822-1828 by Ignatius Bonomi and is made of ashlar sandstone. This tall buttressed wall extends approximately 90 metres to the east and then 35 metres to the north-east. There are later, shorter abutments positioned between the buttresses. The wall features an embattled parapet with semi-octagonal, corbelled-out turrets above each buttress, along with a similar square-plan turret at the west end. At the east end, there is a flight of stone steps. The wall has been noted as unstable due to mining subsidence at the time of the survey.
