Pontithel (partly in the Bronllys community)

Pontithel is an 18th-century road bridge, which was widened on the north side in 1952, at that time the parapet was also raised. The bridge is constructed of rubble sandstone and features three segmental arches made of 45-centimeter radial split sandstone, spanning between two water piers. The central span is wider and higher than the others, with the piers designed as triangular cutwaters made of sandstone ashlar, which rise to create refuges at road level. The parapet slightly oversails above the arches and has flush copings. The widening on the north side added approximately 3 meters, and this alteration is marked by a plaque on the inner face of the north parapet. The eastern end of the bridge falls within the Gwernyfed Community area. This bridge is noted as an interesting example of infrastructure provided by the turnpike trust in the 18th century.
