Description
The Long Bridge is a twin carriageway stone bridge featuring three elegant arches, each 60 feet wide. The arches are constructed with stepped rusticated freestone voussoirs and keystones, complemented by local blue stone spandrels. The bridge has prow-shaped cutwaters that are rounded on the downstream side. The original panelled stone parapet has been replaced with walkways that include iron railings, which are supported by struts from iron arches that spring from rusticated freestone pilasters added to the cutwaters. At the Broad Street end, there are simple piers, while the Penygloddfa end features curved returns with a freestone parapet. Additionally, there is a stone staircase leading down to Frankwell Street on the east side.
