Description
The building at Erddig is a kitchen with attached laundries, a bakehouse, and a scullery, dating from the 18th century. It is constructed of brick with a slate roof, brick chimney, stone dressings, an eaves cornice, and a plinth. The structure is situated between the stables, laundry yard, and house, resulting in partially exposed elevations.
The east elevation features a large Venetian window with stone dressings, including paired pilasters on either side of the central arched opening. The windows throughout the building are multipaned sashes. The north elevation has two blocked windows flanking a door, and the gable end is designed as a pediment. On the west side, there are two small six-pane windows with stone sills. The south elevation includes a window under a cambered brick arch leading to the scullery, and the former end wall of the kitchen displays a large brick stack.
Three large rusticated arches span the south side of the kitchen, with the central arch housing a range from around 1900 made by Rogers & Jackson Ironmongers of Wrexham. A door on the north side connects to a passage leading to the house. The Venetian window on the east side is flanked by paired pilasters surrounding the central arch. Attached to the south and west around an enclosed yard are wet and dry laundries that still contain mid-19th century drying racks, ceramic sinks, and boilers, along with a bakehouse featuring scuffle ovens and a scullery as part of the complex.
