Description

Top Farmhouse is a 17th-century brick and timber-frame farmhouse, with a slate roof and end wall stacks. The house has two floors and originally comprised two rooms arranged around a central entrance. The front has a plank door flanked by three-light casement windows with curved brick heads. A rear wing was likely added in the early 19th century, with later 20th-century extensions to its rear. The interior retains many original features, including a main hall with an inglenook fireplace and a chamfered spine beam, and a parlour that was originally divided and later bisected to create a small service room at the rear. The parlour’s chimney is a later addition, suggesting it was initially an unheated space.
