Description
Wern Cottages is a pair of houses built from squared sandstone rubble, featuring a slate close-eaved roof that overhangs at the gables. The buildings have two square brick ridge stacks and are two storeys high, forming a symmetrical pair with outer gabled crosswings that project slightly. Overall, there is a 4-window range, with hornless small-paned sash windows that have tooled stone lintels and sills. The centre of each house has two 9-pane sashes positioned above two 16-pane sashes. The crosswings differ slightly; the left wing has a 16-pane sash on each floor, set slightly to the right of centre, along with a half-glazed door and overlight to the left. The right wing features a 16-pane sash on the first floor to the left of centre, with a similar door and overlight below, and another 16-pane sash to the right. The side walls are windowless, and the northern crosswing is longer than the southern one. At the back, there is a two-storey lean-to range with a double front offset to the right, which includes two pairs of casement windows under the eaves, along with a window, door, and window that have cambered red brick heads.
