Description
Trevalyn Hospital, originally known as Trevalyn House, is a three-storey building dating from the 18th century. Constructed of red brick with stone dressings, it has a pitched slate roof concealed behind a rendered parapet. The facade features rusticated stone quoins, a plinth, and a cornice. The projecting end bays have twelve-pane sliding sash windows, while the top floor has nine-pane windows and the central section has six. All windows have stone heads marked with voussoirs. The original stone door frame, featuring a consoled cornice to the architrave, was later given a Roman Doric portico, which has subsequently been enclosed by a glazed extension added in the 1960s. Some rainwater goods date to around 1900.
The entrance hall contains a classical revival style inglenook fireplace from around 1900. A fine staircase from the same period is located to the left, distinguished by turned balusters and foliated carving to the cut-string. A bedroom to the rear features an Adam Revival fireplace, constructed from white and yellow marble, with decorative cast-iron firebacks. Throughout the building, much of the original carpentry remains, alongside Edwardian plasterwork on the ceilings.
