Description
The Allington Farm Gatehouse is a painted brick structure with stone dressings, likely dating from the 18th century. It is a symmetrical design, featuring a central block flanked by lower blocks, all topped with parapets concealing the roofs and having stone copings. The central arched entrance has a stone surround and a decorative keystone painted black. Above the arch is an opening with an ogee head and a stone sill. Each flanking block has blind openings with stone sills and ogee heads. Stone corbels support brick piers beside which are outlets for cast iron rainwater goods. The return elevations contain plank doors with shaped strap hinges leading to small storage rooms. The rear elevation, facing the garden, mirrors the front but lacks rainwater goods. The building is attached to garden walls that enclose the farmhouse. The roof structure of the central block was altered in the 20th century and now contains a water tank. The gatehouse has group value with the nearby Allington Farmhouse.
