Description
The Ship Public House is a two-storey building with three windows, constructed of brick. The upper storey features a half-timbered façade and is topped with a red-tiled roof. The brick end stacks are set forward. The symmetrical timber-framed and jettied upper storey has ornamental box-panelling that includes quadrant circle decoration. It features three jettied gables with curved struts, beneath which are large transomed three-light casement windows with quarries.
On the brick ground floor, there is an inset doorway slightly to the right of centre, with brackets supporting the jetty that forms a porch. The boarded door has a small-light window in a wooden surround and is topped by an elliptical-arched brick head. To the left of the doorway is a two-light casement window with quarries set in a stone surround, featuring decorative cusped heads. This window is flanked by shallow five-light bay windows supported on brackets, with casements and fanlights also featuring quarries. Just above the jetty level, there is a plastered relief scene of a ship on the sea, which was built as part of the public house. A conventional pub sign is attached by an iron bracket to the central gable.
The east gable end has a doorway next to the stack and a segmental-arched window to the left with 20th-century glazing. There are also a pair of narrow plain-glazed sash windows offset to the left at mid-level. The west gable end is adjoined by another building, and the rear of the property was not seen during the survey. The interior was also not visible at the time of the survey.
