Description
The Former Willans & Robinson Factory consists of three long, low blocks that were originally flat-topped but now feature shallow gabled roofs behind parapets. The blocks are asymmetrical and constructed from dark red local brick, supported by an iron-framed structure. They display a repeating bay pattern that provides a cohesive appearance, with each bay featuring a window band above a doorway, divided by raked buttresses and pronounced corner buttresses. The large iron-framed windows have small-pane glazing and are topped with cast iron I-section lintels, which include vertical strengthening bars. Above the windows, there is a dentilled brick course with ventilation holes. The factory has mainly tall doorways that are centrally placed and feature concrete lintels. A brick string course runs along the lower level, and there are lines of sockets beneath the windows that have been infilled with concrete. The parapets, which were originally similar in scale to the buttresses and contributed to the bay pattern, have mostly been rebuilt. Some brick paving remains in front of the building, where railway tracks were originally located.
