Description

The farm buildings at Cheshire Farm include a 2-bay granary and a stable block. The granary, built of brick on a high rubble stone base, features a roof made of exceptionally large graded slates. It has raised flat stone copings on the gables and saw-tooth dentilled eaves on both the front and rear. The granary's tall raised doorway is slightly left of center and contains a boarded door. To the right and at loft level, there is an inserted 2-light metal window. The east gable end has ground floor openings within the stone section, including a planked door to the right and a metal window to the left. The rear elevation features a boarded loft hatch to the right and shows the remains of a stone gable end from a now-gone range. The west end, partially visible, has a wide shallow round-arched opening near the base, likely related to an external fireplace.

The stable block, positioned at right angles to the granary, is a large lofted structure made of random stone and brick, topped with a corrugated asbestos roof. The front elevation, facing east, is primarily of brick and contains four large stables, each with doorways that have cambered brick heads and split doors. Between the doorways are metal windows with opening ventilators, set under timber lintels. The full-height loft has four round-arched openings that do not align with the doorways below, and the double loft hatch doors are partly intact. Three decorative ventilation strips are present between the loft hatches but are not symmetrically arranged. The rear elevation has a single doorway with a planked door, offset to the right of center, along with ventilation strips and some brick patching. The south gable features two ventilation strips, beneath which is an open-fronted breeze block lean-to with a corrugated roof. The north gable end is not visible.

The interiors of the buildings have not been seen, but the stable block is still in use as stables.
