Description
Northop Social Club, also known as Grosvenor House, is a building in the Georgian style, constructed from large blocks of snecked pecked sandstone with quoins and covered by slate roofs. It features a brick end stack on the left side. Architectural details include a moulded stone eaves cornice and square hoodmoulds over the openings, which have chamfered stone surrounds and stone sills. The original doorways were grouped towards the center but have been converted to windows with stone infill beneath. These are flanked by single windows. During a recent survey, it was noted that all the lower storey window openings were boarded over. The upper storey has three symmetrically arranged windows; the outer windows are hornless sashes with three panes above a plain sash, as the glazing bars have been removed. The central window is blind and painted. Each gable end has a steep lean-to. The left lean-to features a former window that has been infilled with stone, alongside a 4-pane window and a 2-light casement. The gable above is made of rubble stone. The right lean-to has no openings on the front and is rendered on the side, along with the gable above. There are extensive additions from the mid to late 20th century at the rear, primarily with flat roofs. Access to the interior was not available at the time of inspection.
