Description
The barn located to the northwest of Faenol-broper Farmhouse is a large threshing and storage structure built in red brickwork, dating from the 19th century. It runs north to south and is accessed from the east side, directly from the farmyard. The threshing bay is positioned towards the south, while the northernmost bay, although appearing to be contemporary with the rest of the barn, is separate from the ventilated storage area.
The barn features a slate roof with a tile ridge and upstanding coped gables. It has a four-course brick cornice adorned with dentils. There is a large doorway at the front of the threshing bay, with a corresponding but smaller doorway at the rear. The front has three rows of vents, some of which are blocked, and the storage section includes four doors and two loft hatches that are likely not original. The south gable has seven rows of vents, also with some blocked, and a loft hatch, while the north gable contains a blocked opening.
In the northernmost bay, there is a door and a window, along with two loft hatches above, all featuring segmental openings. The barn consists of ten bays that are divided by oak trusses, which include tie beams and collar beams connected by queen posts, with V struts above the ties and side struts. Lofts were inserted in the 20th century.
