Description
Bodelwyddan Park Wall with entrances and cottages is a notable structure made of local axe-dressed limestone, standing about 2 meters high. It features a large comb-coping of rough stones that project on each side. The west-facing section of the wall is constructed in masonry brought to courses, while the northern side has been rebuilt to align with the current A55 road.
The main entrance from Engine Hill is not the original one; however, an original entrance aligned with the Hotel yard remains on the west side. Glascoed Lodge is integrated into the wall. Other openings in the wall are marked by square wall-piers topped with pyramid copings. There are four-centred doorway arches at Bryn Celyn Lodge and Lodge Bach. Although the wall has been breached at Bryn Celyn, Lodge Bach, Cross Foxes, and Gloddfa, it remains largely intact.
On the western side, there are later additions known as Mine Cottages, which are built into the wall. These consist of a pair of stone cottages made from coursed limestone masonry, featuring slate roofs, end chimneys, and dormer windows with six panes and horned sashes. The door and window joinery below has been restored.
