Description
Bodelwyddan Village Hall, originally a school building, is designed in a simplified Tudor style. It features a main range of schoolrooms oriented north-south, facing east towards the village street, and is set back behind a playground. The head teacher's house is located to the south, while the assistant teacher's house is to the north.
The building is constructed from axe-dressed local limestone with informal coursing, while the two houses feature better snecked masonry. The roof is covered with slates arranged in regular courses, topped with a tile ridge. The overall design is symmetrical, highlighted by a central porch that slightly projects and rises to a coped gable with corbelled kneelers. This central feature is the same height as the main range and includes a simple octagonal flèche where the two roofs meet. The main entrance is marked by a Tudor 4-centred arch, with the Bodelwyddan arms displayed in a panel above and a slit ventilator in the roof. On either side of the entrance are two 3-light schoolroom windows, each with flat lintels. Surrounding the entrance is an inscription and date, along with the arms of the Williams family above.
The end pavilions consist of the slightly advancing gable ends of the two houses, each being a two-storey structure with three windows, facing south and north respectively. Each house features a small stone porch with a coped gable. The windows are hornless sash types with eight panes, arranged as four upright panes per sash. A large stone chimney is located where each house connects to the schoolrooms. There are roof-lights at the rear. The east elevation includes a bay window with a slate roof and a sash window of eight panes similar to those at the front above. A similar upper window is found on the west side. Slit ventilators are present in the roof at both the east and west elevations.
At the rear, there is also a central gable that has been significantly extended.
