Description

13, The Village is part of a group of cottages built around 1857 during the time of Hugh Williams, who later became the 3rd baronet Bodelwyddan. These cottages were constructed to accompany the church, parsonage, and schools established on the instructions of his sister, Lady Margaret Willoughby de Broke. They are located on the west side of a street that runs at right angles to the St Asaph Road, directly opposite the vicarage.

This terrace consists of 11 cottages designed in a picturesque style that shares similarities with the northern terrace but features even more restrained Gothic elements. In the arrangement, three cottages (numbers 8, 13, and 18) are slightly set forward and have gabled fronts, while the remaining cottages have eaves at the front with dormers. The cottages are built from axe-dressed local limestone that is informally coursed, with ashlar window surrounds. They have slate roofs laid in regular courses with tile ridges, and ridge chimneys that have an offset just above the ridge level and enlarged cornices. Unlike the northern terrace, the chimneys here have ribs on the broad faces, similar to those found on the service yard buildings at Bodelwyddan Castle. The upper windows, located in both the gables and dormers, are 6-pane 2-light casement windows, while the lower windows are 9-pane 3-light casement windows.

Some modifications have been made to the cottages. Notable masonry changes can be seen in numbers 9 and 10, which have slightly disrupted the symmetry of the terrace. At the southern end, number 18 has been enlarged at the rear and may have previously been occupied as two separate cottages. Additionally, the mid-terrace advancing cottage has had a new doorway formed to the right of its bay window.
