Description
The building is a long farm structure dating from the 19th century, featuring a central four-bay threshing barn with an adjoining stable range to the south and a former chaff cutting house to the north. It is constructed of rubble masonry and topped with a slate roof. The waggon bay of the threshing barn is located in the second bay on the right (north). The front (east) has double boarded doors beneath a round arch, with a 20th-century open lean-to in front that has a corrugated iron roof. Joist holes indicate that this lean-to may have replaced an earlier structure. To the right of the lean-to is a smaller, earlier stone lean-to with a door on its left side and ruined pig sties in front. The rear opening to the cart-passage has been partially filled with brick and features a single planked door, flanked by ventilation slits. Behind this is a large concrete framed lean-to with a corrugated roof, which replaced a former cow-house.
The stable range to the south has a square-headed window on the left of the front that replaces a doorway. The south gable end includes two doorways, one above the other and offset to the left, both with planked doors. To the right of these is a ground floor window. Most openings have round arched heads, except for the lower left, where a wider archway has been infilled. The adjoining range to the north is believed to have housed a chaff cutter, with a wide boarded door leading into it from the rear. The north gable end features a low round arched door to the left, a hatch left of center, and a round-arched window to the right.
Inside, the threshing barn has simple tie beam trusses and a concrete floor in the cart-passage. There are lofts on both sides, with the right loft being lower and accessible by a step ladder. A high blocked doorway leads north into the adjoining chaff cutting house, and there is a loft opening into the former stables to the south.
