Description
Tan-y-Bwlch is a house featuring a roughcast front with four bays and a plinth. At the time of inspection in February 1989, the left-hand bay was under construction, replacing a similar bay that had decayed before being demolished. The house has a slate roof with wide eaves and brick and rendered chimney stacks, along with 16-pane sash windows. The gables are positioned over the three upper windows, while the ground and first-floor windows on the right have cambered heads. A horned window is located at the main entrance on the left, next to a modern extension, and a modern hooded doorway is situated beneath the middle gable. There is a stone date plaque below the left-hand gable. The right gable end has two windows, with a projecting chimney breast; the windows on the left are camber-headed, and those on the right are square-headed, all being four-pane casements. The roof has dog legs at the rear, along with a small cross gable and an additional chimney stack. There is also a modern flat roof extension and a slightly higher cross range to the left rear, featuring camber-headed casement windows.
Originally, the house had a lobby entry plan with the doorway opposite the hall fireplace. The hall and the former parlour both feature ogee stopped chamfered beams and similarly stopped joists, along with a deep timber lintel above the fireplace. The stairs used to rise to the rear, and there is a half-timbered central wall by the modern staircase, with egged collar and tie trusses.
