Description

Vale Clocks is a two-storey commercial building with a gabled front and a long rear section, dating from the late 19th century. The front range is faced with stuccoed brick, while the rear is of whitened rubble. The roofs are slate, with a chimney made of plain brick.

The front facade features a shop front from the late 19th century, with an entrance on the left and a large 12-pane window on the right. The entrance has a moulded, panelled door with a rectangular overlight, flanked by panelled pilasters. A similar pilaster finishes the right-hand side of the window, and each of the three windows is topped by a console which supports a moulded cornice. The first floor is symmetrical, with a central wooden canted bay, which forms an oriel with a heavily moulded base and cornice and plain sash glazing. The flanking windows are simple, with lugged plaster surrounds, expressed keystones, and contemporary stucco quoining to the corners. These embellishments date from around 1900, and were not present in a photograph from 1881. The gable has deep verges with decorative, pierced and cusped bargeboards, and a finial to the apex.

The interior was not inspected.
