Description
This is a long row of buildings dating from the 18th century, composed of two distinct sections but presenting a unified facade. The buildings are two storeys high throughout, with a pebble-dashed front and steeply pitched slate roofs. Brick stacks are located at the gable ends of the upper section and axially within the lower range.
The upper section originally comprised two units, probably once a single dwelling, now divided into two separate residences. Doorways are at each end; the left-hand doorway is sheltered by a fine timber porch featuring a segmentally arched entrance with snakes carved into the spandrels. This is flanked by tripartite pilasters with religious symbols in relief within recessed panels. The return walls have flat balustrading, likely renewed, above roughcast lower walls. A single light window sits above the porch, and paired lights with high transoms run along the right side on each floor. The upper doorway is beneath a small gabled porch canopy, with a 3-light transomed window to its left and a matching 2-light window above.
The lower section is a longer, two-unit range, with a single-unit cottage to the left of a passageway to the rear. This cottage has an entrance with a gabled porch canopy, and 2-light windows with high transoms on each floor to its right. A similar window is visible beyond the passageway, and another is not aligned above it. A long brick wing is located to the rear of number 139, which appears to be a separate property. The interior has not been inspected.
