Description
This is a late 18th-century building, later dated 1824, originally a single house, now divided into two separate dwellings. It is located on the south side of Westgate, Southwell. The building is constructed of brick, with the street front roughcast and colourwashed, and features stone dressings and pantile roofs. It has a double range plan, with two side walls, a single ridge, and two gable stacks. The windows are glazing bar sashes, with those on the garden front having keystoned lintels. The building is two storeys high and has a three-window range on the street front. The garden front has a slightly projecting, pedimented centre and three sashes. A central, flat-roofed Doric porch with curved steps provides access, covering a moulded doorcase with a half-glazed panelled door and overlight. Flanking the porch are two taller sashes. Each end has a single sash window on each floor. The irregular street front includes three sashes, with a plain sash window near the centre, flanked to the left by two sashes and to the right by a single, larger one. To the right of the central windows, there is a round-headed, close-boarded door. The interior exhibits moulded cornices in the principal rooms, a marble fireplace with Ionic columns and cornice, fitted shutters, and a plain stone fireplace on the first floor with a hob grate.
