Description
147 and 149 Mwrog Street are a pair of semi-detached houses, likely built in the mid-19th century, with some features that may have been added in the late 19th century. The houses are asymmetrical, with 147 on the left having one window and 149 on the right having two windows.
They are tall, two-and-a-half storey structures made of random stone, with the front roughcast and a slate roof that has wide boarded eaves. There are brick chimney stacks at the right end and to the left of the center. Each house features an open-fronted gabled porch topped with a slate roof, decorative tile cresting, and a scrolled finial. The porches have wave-moulded barge boards and rendered sides with four-pane wooden windows.
The front elevation displays three unevenly spaced windows across the storeys. The ground and first floors have 16-pane hornless sash windows with flat heads and stone sills. The attic storey includes gabled half-dormers that contain tall two-light wooden casements with horizontal glazing bars and top-hung lights, and the gables are timber-framed with moulded barge boards.
The west gable end is constructed of random stone, while the east gable end is next to a lower terrace and has been patched with brick, featuring an external brick stack likely related to the terrace. The rear, which is partly visible, has a wide gabled wing in the center with three late 20th-century windows on the first floor and an offset end stack. The porch of 147 is offset to the left and contains a panelled door.
