Description
Llawr Cilan Farmhouse is a symmetrical three-window house dating from the 18th century. It is a building of group value, contributing to the character of its surroundings. The farmhouse is constructed of random stone, which has been stuccoed to the front and the south gable, and is roofed with slate, featuring boarded eaves. A central brick ridge stack rises prominently, featuring six diagonally-set shafts. The main entrance is marked by a triangular wooden pediment and panelled reveals, housing an inset panelled door with a margin-glazed overlight. Flanking the entrance and on the first floor are 16-pane hornless sash windows, each with a flat head and moulded sills. The attic storey has two gabled half-dormers, each containing 4-over-8-pane hornless sash windows. The rear elevation incorporates a boarded door within a stone lintel to the far right, alongside a large 20th-century metal-framed window with a concrete lintel, and two 2-light metal-framed windows with large stone lintels on the first floor, both offset to the right. A central gabled half-dormer is present in the attic.
To the left of the main house is a single-storey wing with a loft, linked to a cart-shed at a right angle. The wing’s gable end features a half-glazed door and a boarded loft door above, possibly indicating a former granary. The south side of this wing has two small 20th-century windows, while the north side has a metal-framed window offset to the left. A boarded door, sheltered by an open porch with a hipped, slate-covered roof supported by posts, is located on the north gable end of the main house, wrapping around the northwest angle. To the left of the porch is a three-light metal-framed window, with similar windows on the first floor and in the attic, offset to the right.
The lower wing to the left is of one-and-a-half storeys, and adjoins the cart-shed range at a right angle. The front of the wing has a large, multi-paned 20th-century window on each storey, while the cart-shed has a two-light 20th-century window in its gable. The south side of the cart-shed range is of random rubble construction, with boulder footings, and features two cart bays with large timber lintels. The west gable end of the cart-shed is advanced to the rear, incorporating a boarded door to the left and an opening to the upper storey, covered by corrugated plastic sheeting. The rear of the wing has a central lateral brick stack on a stone base, with two diagonally-set shafts, flanked by metal-framed windows on each storey; the left-hand window is three-light and the others are two-light, each with a concrete lintel to the left and a stone lintel to the right.
The interior was not accessible at the time of inspection.
