Description
Dinbren-isaf is a two-storey house built of rubble stonework with a slate roof. The right bay is part of a two-bay structure that is oriented at right angles and was extended by an additional two bays to the left, beyond an entrance stair hall, likely around 1820. At that time, a shallow pediment was added, supported by corbelled slate slabs, to highlight the entrance. A service outshut runs along the back at a higher level, and the left wing was further extended by one bay to include the current kitchen, which was raised to two storeys in the late 19th century.
The entrance features a boarded door with an overlight beneath the pediment, flanked by 19th-century timber windows with two and three lights, retaining old crown glass. The ground floor windows have red half-brick segmental arches. There is a gabled porch towards the left, with similar windows to its left. The house has gable stacks, with the earlier one on the right gable made of stone and raised in brick during the 19th century.
The earliest part of the house is timber framed and is said to have smoke-blackened roof timbers. Inside, the main reception room at the front features twin parallel chamfered cross beams and a former framed partition to the rear room, indicated by mortices in the ceiling bressumer. An oak-framed and panelled cupboard is located in the recess to the right of the stack. The roof has a single tier of purlins. The kitchen in the northern extension has a large gable-end fireplace with a curved fire lintel that spans the flanking oven and boiler, which has been removed. There is a straight flight early 19th-century stair in the hallway. A stack that was between the two added front bays has been removed, but the stair beside it on the front wall remains, along with a fireplace featuring a curved lintel in the western end bay gable.
