Description
Dinbren Hall is a substantial house, largely dating to the late 18th century with additions and alterations in the early 19th century. The stucco exterior features cill bands and a plinth, topped by a hipped slate roof with broad eaves and brick chimney stacks. The glazing has been recently removed.
The front of the house is symmetrical, with seven bays and architraves that are lugged to the ground floor. Originally, there were sash windows on the first floor and tall casement windows below. A central pedimented doorcase, dated 1820 and featuring a dentil cornice, provides the main entrance. A three-bay side elevation to the east displays similar detailing and panelled shutters.
The house steps down and sets back to the rear, forming parallel cross ranges that create a U-shaped courtyard. This courtyard originally included an inner, enclosed space (as shown on the Tithe map). The western cross range is of earlier origin and is believed to retain some timber framing. The eastern cross range has tripartite windows to the exterior and a deep porch with timber arcading to the side. A thermal basement incorporates windows. The date 1793 is inscribed on the rear of the main range, positioned centrally above the tall stairwell window.
Interior photographs reveal understated Georgian detailing.
At the time of inspection in February 1989, the building was in poor condition.
