Description
These are a pair of semi-detached villas, constructed in the 18th century. They are built of rough-dressed, snecked limestone with yellow sandstone dressings and quoins, featuring battered plinths and plain stringcourses. The chimneys are of plain stone with slanted capping stones. The roofs are hipped slate with tiled ridges and deep eaves and verges. Each unit is L-shaped, with an entrance located on the return side away from the street. A two-storey, semi-octagonal bay projects from the corner, corbelled out from the plinth. The entrance is recessed within a central bay, and adjacent is an angled return featuring a ground-floor window. Above this window is a triangular wooden oriel, supported on cusped braces and sheltered by an extension of the roof; a smaller window sits above the entrance itself. The windows are plain with tilting casement sections, and the original doors are 4-panel, part-glazed. The street-facing elevation is symmetrical, with paired windows in the centre and turret-like corner bays. The first-floor windows of the central bays extend above the eaves, each with a higher hipped roof. The villa situated downhill (Bryn Orme) includes an additional 3-light, flat-roofed dormer, designed to provide views over the Vale of Clwyd. Both units are largely unaltered, although one (Y Bryn) has a modern picture window replacing a section of the entrance bay. In front of each villa is a battered terrace with a low railing, accessed by stepped paving leading up from the street. These villas form a group of two.
