Description
These are a pair of semi-detached villas, part of a group of two, constructed of rough-dressed, snecked limestone with yellow sandstone dressings and quoins. They have battered plinths and plain stone stringcourses, topped with plain stone chimneys featuring slanted capping stones. The roofs are hipped slate with tiled ridges and deep eaves and verges.
Each villa is L-shaped, with its entrance set back from the street on a return elevation. A distinctive storeyed, semi-octagonal bay extends from the plinth at the corner. The entrance itself is recessed within a central bay, alongside an angled return with a ground-floor window. Above this window is a triangular wooden oriel, supported by cusped braces and sheltered by a roof extension. A further small window sits above the entrance. The windows have plain glazing with tilting casement sections, and the original entrances feature 4-panel part-glazed doors.
The front elevation of each villa is symmetrical, with paired windows centrally placed and flanked by turret-like corner bays. The first-floor windows of the central bays extend above the eaves, incorporating higher hipped roofs. The villa positioned downhill (Y Bryn) has an additional flat-roofed dormer with three lights, designed to provide views over the Vale of Clwyd.
Generally, both units remain in unaltered condition, though Y Bryn has a modern, large picture window to the left of the entrance bay. Each villa has a battered terrace with a railing in front, leading up from the street via stepped access.
