Description
The Screen Wall and Folly adjoining the north end of Craigle is designed in Picturesque Gothic style. The screen wall runs north to south and features a folly at the south end, where it steps back before connecting to the house. The wall is constructed from large and small blocks of random limestone, is castellated, and has large capstones, standing approximately 2 meters high.
The small folly resembles a tower and has three miniature turrets, made from large blocks of coursed limestone and heavily castellated. It is two-sided, following the dog-leg shape of the wall, with the front facing east towards Corwen Road. The front has a blocked arrow slit in the center, with the flanking turrets also featuring blocked arrow slits on each face and blind stylized crosses beneath the castellations. To the right, there is a narrow bay containing an entrance, which has a four-centred arch made of stone voussoirs that leads to a boarded door.
The south side of the folly mirrors the front, with similar turrets, blocked arrow slits, and stylized crosses. From the southwest angle, the screen wall returns towards the south and connects to the house, with a lean-to shed in front. On the rear, the north side has a blind doorway that has been infilled with stone, featuring three orders of mouldings and a four-centred arched head made of stone voussoirs.
