Description

Tremeirchion Voluntary Primary School is a T-shaped building dating from the 19th century, with its main section aligned east to west and facing south towards the playground and the road. The main range is constructed from local limestone ashlar with snecked courses and features a slate roof with coped gables. The rear wing, which is of a later date, is built of brickwork with a slate roof, a brick chimney, and timber bargeboards. There are also more modern single-storey rear extensions that are rendered and have flat roofs.

The front elevation is symmetrical and includes a central gable. It features three 3-light windows with small-pane glazing; the central window beneath the gable has mullions and a transom, while the outer windows are also mullioned. There is a sunk date-panel within the central gable and small wall-vents located beneath the windows.

To the left of the school is the former two-storey teacher's house, which has its gable facing the front. This house consists of two units that match the front masonry but are in white-painted brickwork on the sides and rear. It has a slate roof with a coped gable at the front and a central brick chimney. There is a brick porch on the left side, and the windows have been replaced but retain their original openings with chamfered jambs and lintels.

Inside the main schoolroom, there is a canted high ceiling with exposed timbers at the tie-beam level or below, including decorative cast-iron strengtheners beneath the main trusses. The interior is generally modern, with a recently added gallery.
