Description
Brynbella Upper Lodge, also known as Top Lodge, is a single-storey gatelodge built with ashlar stone at the front and roughcast on the sides and rear. It features a hipped double-pile slate roof with metal hip and ridge covers, and a brick chimney situated in the valley between the front and rear sections. The left side of the building curves inward to align with the road. The front facade is made of ashlar limestone and includes a cornice and blocking course, two round-headed windows, and a central round-headed doorway. The front windows are sash type, designed to fit the curve of the heads. The door has been replaced with a modern version, and the fanlight is covered. There is a 16-pane sash window on the left side and a four-pane window at the rear. Unlike the south lodge, this gatelodge does not have window shutters.
The lodge is positioned at right angles to the gates, which consist of four ashlar piers approximately 2 meters high, topped with stone copings. The main gates are highly ornamented wrought iron, while the side gates are simpler. The name Brynbella is carved into the left main pier.
